World Neglected Diseases day : 30 January

January 30 is to be marked as World Neglected Diseases day.

This is the first time World NTD Day is marked.

The day creates awareness in addressing the tropical diseases.

This initiative brings together various civil society organisations, community leaders, global health experts and policy makers working in the field of NTDs.

The Neglected Tropical Diseases are caused by pathogens such as bacteria, helminths, viruses and protozoa.

Currently, the World Health Organization (WHO) identifies 20 major conditions as NTDs.
