Yukta Mookhey is an Indian actress, model and the winner of the Miss World 1999 pageant. She was the fourth Indian woman to win the Miss World title. Yukta Mookhey was also crowned as Miss World - Asia and Oceania during the contest. Yukta Mookhey is also known for her major roles in such Bollywood films as Love in Japan, Memsahab, and Pyaasa.
Yukta was born in the Sindhi-speaking Mookhey family in Bombay, Maharashtra, India, on October 7, 1979. Yukta Mookhey studied zoology at V.G. Vaze college. Mookhey has a diploma in computer sciences and has studied Hindustani classical music for three years. At the age of nineteen, Mookhey entered herself at the Femina Miss India 1999 contest, where she was shortlisted as a contestant. At the grand finale, she was crowned as Miss India World (first runner-up) by the outgoing titleholder Annie Thomas, giving her the right to represent India at the Miss World 1999 contest. Mookhey entered the film industry and her first film was an item number in the 2001 Tamil movie Poovellam Un Vasam directed by Ezhil, starring Ajith Kumar and Jyothika in the lead roles.
