World's first commercial electric plane takes flight in Canada
Signifying the start of electric aviation age, the world's first fully-electric commercial aircraft took its inaugural test flight, in Vancouver, Canada.
The company designed the plane's motor and worked in partnership with Harbour Air.
The e-plane, a 62-year-old, six-passenger DHC-2 de Havilland Beaver seaplane retro-fitted with an electric motor, was piloted by Greg McDougall, founder and Chief Executive of Harbour Air.
The flight involved a six-passenger DHC-2 de Havilland Beaver with a 750-horsepower (560 kW) magni500 propulsion system.
Canadian seaplane operator Harbour Air hopes to electrify its entire fleet by 2022, provided it secures safety and regulatory approvals.
