Prithviraj Singh Rupan elected President of Mauritius

The members of Mauritius Parliament have selected Prithviraj Singh Rupan as the President of Mauritius.

In Mauritius, the prime minister is head of the govt and holds most political power while the president is head of state but has no executive role and is considered the guardian of the constitution.

Earlier, Rupan was the Art and Culture Minister of Mauritius. He is an advocate by profession and selected in National Assembly for the first time in 2000.
