About Iodine

Iodine is a mineral substance commonly found in seafood, dairy products, grains, and eggs.

Iodine deficiency is a serious problem worldwide. Globally, 2 billion people are at risk of iodine deficiency diseases.

To help prevent iodine deficiency, it is added to household salt.

Why do we need iodine

We need iodine to complete the proper functioning and development of our body through the thyroid gland.

About 70–80 percent of iodine in our body is present in the thyroid gland and is used to make Thyroid Hormones.

Iodine from food is absorbed by the thyroid gland to produce thyroid hormone which is responsible for regulating the following functions in our body.

For the development of the body
To control body temperature
For breeding
For muscles and nerves
To control heart rate

Preventive measures

Since our body does not make iodine naturally, our diet plays an important role in providing us with proper amount of iodine.

The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends including iodine-rich foods such as seafood, dairy products, eggs and meat in your diet to combat iodine deficiency.
