The United Nations celebrates World Maritime Day on 26 September every year. World Maritime Day 2019 theme: Empowering Women in the Maritime Community.

It provides an opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of gender equality and highlight the yet significant contribution of women within the maritime sector, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.
