15 September: International Democracy Day

Today is international democracy day

In 2007, the United Nations General Assembly resolved to celebrate September 15 as International Day of Democracy with the aim of promoting and upholding the principles of democracy.

In 1997, the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) adopted the Universal Declaration on Democracy.


This declaration reaffirms the principles of democracy, elements of democratic government and international scope of democracy.
