During the event, India also assumed the chairmanship of the COP for two years and the Union Minister of Environment played the role of the Chairman of the COP.
The conference started with the aim of tackling desertification in the affected areas and achieving sustainable development by reducing the effects of drought.
The 12-day conference would witness participation of as many as 196 countries with over 5,000 participants from across the globe.
