About Shaliza Dhami : India's first female flight Commander



She was raised in Ludhiana, Punjab.


On 26 August 2019, Wing Commander Shalija Dhami who became 1st female flight commander of operations unit of Indian Air Force.

Shalija Dhami is a wing commander who has been serving the country by becoming a part of the Indian Air Force for the last 15 years. Now he has been given the responsibility of taking up the post of Flight Commander at Chetak Helicopter Unit at Hindon Airbase in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.

The flight commander is the first major leadership position in the Air Force.

Shalija hails from Ludhiana, Punjab. At the same time, his studies have also been completed. They also have a son, who is around 9 years old. Shalija says that she wanted to become a pilot since childhood. He fulfilled his dream.

She is the 1st woman officer of IAF to be given a permanent commission for a long tenure. 

She is a permanent commissioning officer of Flying Branch in Indian Air Force (IAF) and flies helicopters.

She is also the 1st women qualified flying instructors of Indian Air Force for helicopters. In her career of 15 years, Wing Commander 
Shalija Dhami has flown Chetak and Cheetah helicopters.
